Soho Square – CD – a personal tribute to the musical legacy of Kirsty MacColl, CD 2 of 2

This is the second of my two albums dedicated to the memory of the late, great British singer/songwriter Kirsty MacColl.  Lyrics in the title track include the line ″One day you’ll be waiting there, no empty bench in Soho Square″ and that sentiment is quoted on a bench dedicated to her memory, in Soho Square, London.  Together with the tracks on the first album “In these Shoes?” these songs form the basis for the playlist of my ‘tribute to Kirsty’ shows including a shortened (60 minute) version of the show which was developed specifically for Fringe Festival performances (Perth and Adelaide to date; alas Edinburgh 2020 did not proceed!).  Kirsty was a wonderful interpreter of songs, both her own and those written by others; I believe that with these two albums, whether taken as individual, stand-alone albums or together as a pair, I have done justice to her great musical legacy.  I hope you enjoy the music too!

This is my second studio album which, together with In These Shoes? forms a personal tribute to the life and music of Kirsty MacColl.  Again, with the help of my co-producer Nigel Pegrum and a lovely bunch of professional musicians I have interpreted the songs my way - these tracks are not aiming to sound identical to the Kirsty originals, they are good old Karen J White throwing myself into the wonderful music – but not straying too far from the originals, which would upset many of the Kirsty Fans  … it is a fine balance!

This album completes my recordings of the 21 tracks chosen to go onto CDs (I already have another two tracks on my first studio album By Request) and these songs go from Kirsty′s first ever record release in 1979 (They Don′t Know with Turn My Motor On as the B side) to some from her final album in 2000 Tropical Brainstorm, with various stages in between.
